The Fashion & Beauty change from Victorian times to the 40s

Woman's fashion and beauty completely changed from Victorians style from wearing corsets to big elegant dresses when the war started in (1939). To wearing a uniform and working either in a factory or on lands. The (1939) was when woman went from very lady big dresses to wearing masculine clothing and having their hair up.

Men where wanted at war to fight for their own country!
Vogue magazine did a advertising where is said ( take a job release a man to fight) Where it was the first world war and also corset liberation. Woman started on going to work and to drive. Woman would wear uniforms, scalpel hair doo's with a turban around their head to stop the hair from falling out at work in factory's or even if they would be working in land as it was hygienic health and safety rules in the work industry.

Woman was restricted to wear bright colours, luxurious fabrics, decorations and changeability in their dresses as it was expensive material. Instead they would wear big fantasy hats, the hat was a big statement for fashion with hair doo's as hair and hats was when they would express themselves. Woman would have their hair up in victory rolls they would have rolls at the front and cover up the rest of the hair as they where now working in factory's and even though they had to wear a turban around their head and a dark coloured uniform they would still wear it fashionable, as they were not allowed to wear nice fabric's and bright colours as it was too expensive! But they would still express themselves with hats, big hair and bags!

Hair was no longer down but instead up with big high quiffs and gloves was also worn, bags and hats where when they would express themselves. Woman wore very masculine clothing as they were now at work whilst the men were out at war fighting.

In the (1920) woman started to show off their ankles off, chest and arms and that's when woman start removing hair and deodorant is also advertised as woman are now exposing more of their own bodies. The style changed in the nineteen century after the war had ended in (1945) at the end of the war shoulders are getting bigger and more fabric is being worn by woman.

Queen Elizabeth also helped out in the war and dressed a uniform with a hat. She did not leave London she stayed and went round making sure people where okay.

In (1949) was when Marilyn Monroe started modelling for Vogue magazine.Where everything changed to it was the beginning of socks being worn with flat shoes and high hills. It was also when health fitness was advertised in Vogue magazine.

Woman's fashion

Women as you can see would have shorter dresses up to their knees with shorter sleeves they started on revealing more of their own skin. High hills where also worn. Hats, bags were very fashionable back then.

Woman as you can see would wear uniforms very stylish on keeping their make-up and hair still very fashionable. Strong red lips and eyebrows where stand out and they would also wear a tiny bit of eyeliner with a small amount of blusher applied on the apples of the cheekbones.
A Vogue magazine started advertising sport for woman and woman started revealing their skin more and that when deodorant started being advertised and also raisers as more skin was being revealed in public by doing sport and woman started getting rid of unwanted hair.
Hairstyles
Woman started wearing their hair in Victorian rolls, taking their hair off the face. This is also a Vogues magazine photo advertising a funky clothing as you can see a palm tree shirt it was when shirt had come out in fashion and as you can see the strong red lips and strong standing out eyebrows with a little bit of eyeliner was very much worn as it was a very popular make-up look in the 40s.
This is how woman would look like in the (1940s) when they started working and also driving. Woman also would still apply their make-up and look presentable even if they did have to have their hair up and wear a turban. Some woman would also have some small curls come out on show making it look stylish even though they had to wear a uniform.
In the 1920s was also when lipstick started being very popular as a lot of different shades and colour had come out as make-up was now being worn and not seen by slutty. Woman would express themselves with strong lipstick colours mostly red's and pinks colours.
Marilyn Monroe
Was a very big famous actress, signer, model and film producer in the (1940s) who became a major sex symbol in the (1950s) to the early (1960s)
As you can see Marilyn has the strong red lipstick with her eyebrows standing out with a tiny bit of eyeliner and mascara.
